The Concept of Reporting
Rural reporting. Land up in a village. Find point-person - usually points MAW (dunno what i meant by this). Bust people's space. Break into their homes with paper, pen & or electronic gadgets. Act authoritative and knowledgeable. Bark questions. volleyvolleyvolleyvolleyvolley..........
Once the process of firing exhausts & the extraction is complete, the 'weary' (god-damned-trip-to-village-no-ac-in-what-was-that-himalaya-bottle-water-less-house-made-of) interrogator often troops out often leaving an exhausted, bemused, bored or pissed off mortal in her / his wake.
As for the reporter / interrogator, s/he will go on to weave a story around the extracted information & might also create a few facts from experiences, epiphanies or more often - stereotypes. This will earn her/him their keep but the questioned mostly have their questions unanswered.
This may be me indulging in false morality, ranting, but the questions pose larger problems than the pain in one's ears. Conceptual problems. Constructions of facts. INterventions - often false. At what cost? For whose benefit?
report, analyse, earn, live; answer, question, nothing, exist - repeat.
Holds for for development dude/tte(s) too.
